‘Very limited public engagement’ if Caroline Kennedy arrives before election

Caroline Kennedy will have “very limited” public engagement if at all should she arrive in Australia before the May 21 federal election, political scientist Simon Jackman says.

Ms Kennedy, who has been nominated to be US ambassador to Australia, is currently undergoing the confirmation process.

“Parachuting a brand newly minted ambassador into the hothouse of an Australian election campaign, if she does arrive in-country before the election there’ll be very limited public engagement, if any at all,” Professor Jackman told Sky News Australia.

“I expect they might even delay the arrival until we get a read on who the next government of Australia is.”
