Solomon Islands-China security deal ‘benefits government’ not Pacific nation

Solomon Islands Opposition MP Peter Kenilorea Jr says the security agreement between the Pacific nation and China is seen as “not benefiting the country”, but something that might be benefiting Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and his government.

“They have agendas that they need to do,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“One big one for us is the planned extension of parliament life from four to five years … in order to push those agendas, I think they might need some support in terms of backing to do that.”
