Responsible for representing the federal government in courts, the Solicitor General’s Office took on the defense of Walderice da Conceição, accused of being a dummy employee in Jair Bolsonaro’s office during his years as a congressman.
Ms. Conceição was listed as a congressional aide but, according to investigators, never showed up for work. Evidence suggests that the president falsely attested to her working 40 hours a week.
The Solicitor General’s Office justified the move by saying the law allows it to defend “government agents” — President Jair Bolsonaro is also a defendant in the investigation. According to the defense, Ms. Conceição performed her work away from Brasília.
Ms. Conceição ran for city council in 2020 in the city of Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro state) under the name “Wal Bolsonaro.” She got fewer than 300 votes.
