A Queensland man who allegedly strangled his former partner and took off with their 11-month-old son was later taken into custody in a dramatic arrest after being found inside a storage business.
The alleged ordeal began on Saturday afternoon when paramedics were called to the Meriton Apartments in Southport, on the Gold Coast.

“There, they found a collapsed female, 25-year-old person, and there was also a 34-year-old male person and an 11-month-old baby boy at that location,” Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn told reporters on Sunday.
Police were also called to the scene, but before they arrived, it’s alleged the man fled with the child.
After examining the injuries the woman sustained, “we formed a concern for the baby boy’s welfare and Queensland Police issued an Amber Alert,” Det Insp Ahearn said.
Hours later, at 12.15am, two females attended Crestmead Police Station with the boy, who was unharmed.
Less than half an hour later, police tracked down the 34-year-old man close to the Oxley Motor Inn.
He fled on foot, before being chased by officers to a storage business, where he was arrested.
Det Insp Ahearn confirmed the woman and man are the biological parents of the 11-month-old boy.
“We believe they are currently estranged and living apart,” he said, adding police will investigate the circumstances of the pair being at the same location on Saturday.
The 25-year-old woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She remains in a critical condition.
The man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and strangulation and is set to appear in court on Monday.
A grey Mazda CX9 was seized by police as part of ongoing investigations.
Any witnesses have been urged to come forward.
