Public servant who announced Whitlam government’s dismissal dies

The public servant who announced the dismissal of the Whitlam government on November 11, 1975, has died at 89.

The public servant read the formal proclamation that led to the ousted Prime Minister’s now iconic response.

Sir David remained official secretary to four more Governors-General and was knighted by the Queen in 1990.
