Labor to make $125 million electric bus pledge

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has hit the hustings in Western Australia and will today make a $125 million pledge to manufacturing electric buses if elected in May.

This would mean the creation of 100 new jobs and 300 employees transitioning over to clean energy work.

It’s expected the commitment to manufacture 130 electric buses will also be matched by the McGowan government in Western Australia.

While the first of the 130 buses won’t be rolled out until 2024-2025, it’s expected the combined funding between Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese and WA Premier Mark McGowan will also go towards upgrading bus depots to allow them to have a charging infrastructure.

It’s understood the initiative is yet to be fully costed.
