Kilmarnock defender Calum Waters jokes he fancies himself to score as he eyes first goal in SIX years

It has been six long years since Calum Waters bagged a goal – but he has joked he feels one coming in the final six games of the season.

The left back has yet to find the net since joining Kilmarnock back in 2017, and he has drawn blank since a goal for Alloa in 2016.

But he says he’s had a laugh with his teammates saying he envisages his name on the scoresheet sooner rather than later.

“I’m still waiting to score one for Kilmarnock after five and a half years!” He chuckled.

“But I was telling a few of the boys I’m going to score before the end of the season. I’m trying to get there, I’ve never been a consistent starter with Killie so maybe that’s played it’s part.

“But it’s something I need to add to my game. You see the modern day full-backs getting on and getting goals so it’s something I need to improve.

“The boys haven’t missed me on that one.”

Today’s clash against Partick Thistle would be the perfect chance to get off the mark as the Rugby Park side look to keep themselves at the top of the cinch Championship in a crucial clash with Partick Thistle.

Waters said: “I think you have to treat Partick as title contenders because in this league it’s so competitive so everyone can beat anyone.

“Especially on the back of two defeats, they will come here desperate to get back on track.

“But a while back we targeted our home form and until now we have done well at home.

“That’s something we looked at and we know if we get the win at the weekend it’s another milestone.”

He added: “We need to be relentless and be the hardest-working team because everyone wants to get at us now.

“So we have to do the basics well because we know if we do that we have the quality in our side to win games.

“So it’s about that and not stopping.

“Promotion is obviously the target, we don’t have any midweek games now so there is a chance to think about the whole season.

“But we have not been doing that, we have just been focusing on each weekend and putting all our effort into that one game.

“Hopefully that will pay dividends coming into the end of the season.

“Our confidence is high, we are a few games unbeaten and the boys are in good spirits.

“Everything has been going well, the new manager came in and created a good, fun environment where you want to come in to work every day.

“They have put a lot of confidence in to players like myself, so it has been brilliant.”
