Jeanfield Swifts 6 Tynecastle 1: Swifts enjoy Friday night under the lights

Switched-on Jeanfield Swifts enjoyed their Friday night under the lights.

Ross Gunnion’s side picked up a deserved and comfortable Premier League three points against Tynecastle at the Riverside.

Swifts, fielding a more experienced team from a Tuesday evening win against Thornton Hibs, grabbed the upper hand in the 17th minute when Chris Dodd, at the second time of asking, prodded home from close range.

The momentum was soon with the Perth men and clinical Chris McLeish netted a quick-fire double to extend the advantage to three. His second of the evening was a perfectly executed header which kissed the post on the way in.

Tynecastle did not, however, throw in the towel and they had a route back into the game as the break approached.

That was when Taylor Hendry somehow managed to slip the ball between the posts from the tightest of angles.

The Edinburgh visitors would look to continue their comeback early in the second half. But instead it was Swifts who came out of the traps at pace.

With home fans still filtering back onto the terrace, youngster Keillour Lowe quickly added a fourth.

And then Connor McLaren, not long back from representing the Scotland futsal squad in Bulgaria, produced a composed finish across the goalkeeper. That was 5-1 and surely game over.

Swifts continued to push forward and Shaun Struthers soon headed wide from close range.

The attention of the home support was briefly caught when the stadium announcer voiced over the tannoy that all pies were reduced to £1. Hungry punters edged towards the kiosk.

Eyes swung back to the field of play just in time to watch McLeish miss a penalty and the chance of his hat-trick.

Dodd certainly took his chance as the final 10 minutes approached, firing in a peach of a right-footed drive from distance which left the flying goalkeeper stretching at thin air.

Swifts, who sit fourth in the table, settled for 6-1 and are now seven points back of Linlithgow Rose.
