Data also unearthed that East Ayrshire Council was among the top 10 local authorities in the UK for the greatest expenditure on CCTV, coming in at 10th place after spending £367,073 maintaining and installing cameras in 2020. Only Renfrewshire (£380,016) spent more in Scotland.

Glasgow City has the most cameras in the UK — East Ayrshire fell to 21st in the UK for this measure.

While The City of London spent an eye-watering £7.05m on the upkeep and installation of cameras.
