Australia is ‘going to have to do work’ to restore reputation: McKellar

Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Andrew McKellar says Australia will “have to invest” in promoting the nation “heavily” as an international destination.

It comes after it was confirmed by Prime Minister Scott Morrison vaccinated tourists will be allowed to enter Australia from February 21.

“We can't assume that people are just going to be, you know, flocking to our shores; we are going to have to do work to restore the image and to promote Australia,” Mr McKellar told Sky News Australia.

He said we’ve got to get to a point where “the country as a whole” can open up.

“There needs to be a clear timetable to do that, some clear criteria for that to occur, so I think obviously there’s more work to do in that space.”
